sources of genuinely useful freeware that I have found are:

Anonymous Browsing
|
All your net activity is logged and you may feel unhappy about this for a
variety of reasons. When the motor car was invented, the fact that thieves
started to use them to assist their getaways caused people to argue for the
banning of such vehicles. People will always misuse technology that has a
legitimate use and there are calls for anonymous browsing solutions to be banned (they has been in certain countries). Anonymous browsing may be abused by criminals, terrorists,
pornographers. However, many individuals, companies, and political groups (not
least Human Rights Organisations and Opposition Parties in repressive
countries) have a legitimate use for such facilities.
There are
at least two solutions:
- Use an anonymous browsing service. IDzap, Ponoi, Orangatango and netHUSH offer a range of services (including a free option). Ponoi will store encrypted material online for you and Orangatango will anonymise your emails for you. Also take a look at the paid options available at
SafeWeb
and Anonymizer. Totally secure solutions with military strength encryption. Just
go to the sites and browse from there. No software to install.
- Use an anonymouse proxy server.
MultiProxy
This software allows to select free anonymous proxy servers which makes it
difficult for your browsing to be tracked back to an individual machine.
However, the key word is 'difficult'. It does not make it impossible.

Cheap Monitoring and Accountability Software

You may have good reasons either to want to monitor what is happening on your
computer while you are not present, or have good reasons for others to help you
be accountable for what happens on your machine while others are not present.
Two reasonably priced, and helpful solutions are:

KeyKey
This program works unnoticed in the background to record all keyboard strokes
and file them until the logs are looked at by the machine administrator. This
incidentally provides a useful means for retrieving the text of documents that
may be lost through computer crashes, but a more typical usage might a parent
monitoring a child's internet activity. If the child knows the program is
working in the background, it may help encourage self-censorship.

If you have a particular internet addiction you can arrange for your internet
activity logs to be automatically sent to two other people on a regular basis
to help you be accountable to others who care about you.

Free secure emails and free digital signatures
